Reverend Scott Jeffreys

Scott Jeffreys began his ministry at our church in November of 2004. He is originally from Burlington, NC, and he is a 1992 graduate of Montreat College in Montreat, NC, and a 2002 graduate of Beeson Divinity School in Birmingham, AL.

Scott is married to Malia, his wife of fifteen years, and they have four children: Bethany (13), Parker (10), Ingrid (5) and Simon (1).

Scott did not grow up in the church; but, at the age of fourteen, he came to a personal faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Reflecting back upon his life before Christ, he acknowledges a sense of emptiness, lostness, lack of purpose, and estrangement from God. “Even before my life changing encounter with Jesus Christ I already knew in my heart that I was a sinner and that I did not know God. I heard the gospel and I wanted to follow Christ.”

After his conversion to Christ, he became actively involved in a local church, a youth group, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). One of the most formative experiences during his high school years was his experience in youth missions that took him to the Republic of Haiti twice.

Providentially, Scott’s journey in the Presbyterian Church began when he went to Montreat College, a Presbyterian affiliated institution. It was there, while attending Montreat Presbyterian Church, that he began to identity himself with the Reformed Tradition of the Presbyterian Church USA. He was inspired by the scripturally based and Biblical preaching of Calvin Thiemann and Richard White.

Upon graduation from college and after a few years in the work force, Scott began to sense a call to ordained ministry. This journey led him to Birmingham, Alabama, the home of his wife Malia, where he attended Beeson Divinity School. While in seminary, Scott’s sense of God’s call in his life was further confirmed through his theological studies, preaching, and internship opportunities.

As our pastor, Scott places an emphasis on Biblical preaching and teaching, providing pastoral care, and leading people into a life of Christian discipleship. He identifies himself an orthodox, evangelical, and reformed Christian. In his spare time he enjoys reading, listening to music, playing the guitar, playing with his kids, and keeping up with sports.
