Sunday Mornings at Guntersville FPC

Worship Services

Contemporary and traditional collide at GFPC on Sunday mornings!  Our new contemporary, informal worship service kicks off at 9:00 a.m. in our spacious fellowship hall.  Our traditional worship service begins at 11 a.m. in our sanctuary. Both services are vibrant, lively, and Christ-centered. We aim for a delicate balance between “form” and “freedom” in our worship. We don’t want to be so structured that we are stuffy, nor do we want to be so loose that we have no order.

If you attend the early worship service at 9 a.m., you can expect modern hymns, multimedia aids, refreshments and a kid-friendly atmosphere.  A variety of seating arrangements accommodate both individuals and groups of all sizes and ages.

We have an outstanding choir and our hymns can range from traditional Presbyterian to revivalist/evangelical at our traditional worship service at 11 a.m. The one common thread amongst them all is the sing-ability of the hymns. If they can’t easily be sung then we don’t sing them!

When you come to either of our worship services, you will receive a user-friendly worship bulletin that will help acclimate you to the ebb and flow of our service. If you’ve never worshiped in a Presbyterian church before, or in any church for that matter, don’t fret because you are among friends!

As for dress, we invite you to wear what you are most comfortable wearing. If you want to come “casual” or “dressy” it doesn’t matter to us. You will find folks who do both at our church. Our early service tends to have a much more casual, dressed-down atmosphere.  More importantly, is that you come with a heart longing to worship God. For more information, contact Reverend Scott Jeffreys. See you Sunday!

Sunday School

We have Sunday school for all ages. Our classes begin at 10:00 am. and are sandwiched between our informal and traditional worship services.

We have two adult classes. Our seasoned but “young at heart” folks meet in the downstairs wing of our fellowship hall, and they use the international Sunday school lessons for their curriculum. Our younger adults also meet downstairs in the fellowship hall, and this class uses varied curriculum and is Bible-centered in its approach as opposed to being topically driven. We place a strong emphasis in our adult classes on studying the Bible as our primary text.

We have four youth classes, and they all meet in the downstairs wing of our fellowship hall. We have a preschool class that covers 3 to 5 years of age.  Our elementary class covers first to fifth grades, and our junior high class covers sixth to eighth grades. For each of these classes we use a solid, Biblically-based, age-appropriate Sunday school curriculum called “Walk with Me.” We also have a senior high class that covers ninth to twelfth grades. This class is varied in its Sunday school curriculum.

Sunday school teachers are Betsey Adams, Jill Gore, Kirby Rutland, Leila Mae Kooiman, Susan Henderson, John East, Gary Gore, Shay Griggs, Mary Lou Griffith, Scott Jeffreys, Melissa Word, Mary Kate Beard, Ed Crabtree, Lee Matthews, and Mary Rutland.

Nursery

In addition to the above youth classes, a church nursery with two adult caregivers is available for infants and younger children.  The nursery is open during Sunday school and worship service and is located downstairs in the fellowship hall.  The nursery is equipped with cribs, portable pack-n-plays, changing table, TV, DVD player, rocking chair, restroom, and lots of age-appropriate toys. The nursery is available for use during special church events, such as youth get-togethers, fellowship dinners and vacation Bible school.  It is convenient for mothers with young children, whether they are breastfeeding, rocking their infants to sleep, comforting a fussy little one, or providing an opportunity for their younger children to play together.  The nursery is conveniently located downstairs from the early worship service and right beside the Sunday school classrooms.
